President Says Government Contracts with Companies Must Be “Fair”

Former special advisor Musk has voiced criticism over the massive legislation to advance the president’s agenda.

President Donald Trump suggested cutting funding to contracts with former Special Advisor to the President Elon Musk, after the tech, EV, and space mogul criticized the “Big Beautiful Bill“ that is being reconciled in the Senate.

President Trump stated, “The easiest way to save money in our Budget, Billions and Billions of Dollars, is to terminate Elon’s Governmental Subsidies and Contracts.” The president said, “[Elon] knew every aspect of this bill; he knew it better than almost anybody. And he never had a problem until right after he left.“

The president and his former DOGE advisor sparred verbally over social media late last week. Musk made claims and accusations about the president, some of which he has since deleted. He also suggested creating a third political party and floated decommissioning SpaceX’s Dragon capsule.

President Trump later said that contracts should be fair for the United States as well as for contractors, such as Musk. When asked about the rift, the president said, “I’m very disappointed in Elon; I’ve helped Elon a lot.”
