The agency issued a warning for Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, and Nuevo Nayarit.
The U.S. Embassy and Consulate in Mexico warned travelers this past week that criminals have been using dating apps to kidnap U.S. citizens to extort money from families in exchange for their release.
The threat warning has been issued for Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, and Nuevo Nayarit, Nayarit, two areas with already heightened threat levels. The State Department classified the state of Nayarit at a “Level 2: Exercise increased caution” risk level and the state of Jalisco at a “Level 3: Reconsider travel” risk level.
“Travelers should use caution when meeting strangers; meet only in public places and avoid isolated locations, such as residences or hotel rooms, where crimes are most likely to occur,” the U.S. Embassy wrote. The warning also advised travelers to let friends and family know when they are planning on meeting with someone.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For State Department officials as they issue travel and safety warnings.
- For Secretary of State Rubio to receive God’s wisdom as he heads the State Department.
- For American travelers to heed warnings and advisories issued about their planned destinations.
