Federal Election Commission Fines Congresswoman for Finance Law Violations

Representative Waters’ campaign accepted donations in excess of federal law.

The Federal Elections Commission (FEC) fined Representative Maxine Waters’ congressional campaign $68,000 for violating federal campaign finance laws. The California congresswoman’s campaign underreported acceptance of donations as well as spending by tens of thousands of dollars.

The congresswoman’s attorney stated that “errors were made which were not willful or purposeful,” and added that “the errors were primarily a result of limited staff availability and resources during the pandemic.”

The attorney continued that the campaign had “amended its reports to correct the financial misstatements” and “refunded or disgorged all excess contributions reflected.”

Representative Waters has previously been accused of financial ethics violations in 2004, 2010, and 2018.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Vice Chair Trey Trainor to seek God’s direction as he heads the Federal Elections Commission.
  • For commissioners of the FEC as they work to hold politicians accountable to comply with federal campaign finance laws.
  • For U.S. elected officials to be discerning regarding fundraising and campaign spending.
