The commission has scheduled a workshop on cross-sex hormones and surgeries for July.
The Federal Trade Commission may investigate medical professionals who have promoted transgender interventions for minors.
“Under the Federal Trade Commission Act, the FTC is provided broad authority to protect consumers from unfair and deceptive trade acts and practices,” an FTC memo from Chairman Andrew Ferguson read. “There is now considerable reason to believe that the doctors and medical providers pushing [transgender interventions] on minors are knowingly deceiving parents by exaggerating [the treatments’] ‘benefits’ and downplaying its harmful side effects.”
The agency will be holding a workshop in July on transgender surgeries, hormones, and puberty blockers. Such events often precede the FTC taking legal action on the subject.
Senator Tom Cotton of Arkansas expressed support for the FTC’s potential investigation into “the horrific scheme to target minors with barbaric gender procedures.”
The senator said, “Everyone involved – including the ‘doctors’ – should face massive liability for the damage they did to vulnerable children.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Chairman Ferguson to be prudent as he heads the Federal Trade Commission and sets its priorities.
- For members of Congress as they assess and respond to the risks of transgender interventions on minors.
