The vice president and secretary of state engaged leaders from both countries over two days to bring peace about.
President Donald Trump announced that India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire Saturday.
“After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE,” President Trump posted. “Congratulations to both Countries on using Common Sense and Great Intelligence. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
Conflict erupted last week between the two countries after India claimed a terrorist attack and launched strikes against Pakistan. The neighboring nations each attacked each other’s military bases on Saturday before the ceasefire was announced. Saudi Arabia and China reportedly joined the U.S. in urging the truce.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio also stated, “Over the past 48 hours, [Vice President JD Vance] and I have engaged with senior Indian and Pakistani officials, including Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Shehbaz Sharif, External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir, and National Security Advisors Ajit Doval and Asim Malik. I am pleased to announce the Governments of India and Pakistan have agreed to an immediate ceasefire and to start talks on a broad set of issues at a neutral site.“
He added, “We commend Prime Ministers Modi and Sharif on their wisdom, prudence, and statesmanship in choosing the path of peace.“
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For President Trump as he seeks to end and avert conflicts around the globe.
- For Vice President Vance and Secretary Rubio as they engage in diplomatic efforts with foreign heads of state.
