State Department Imposes More Sanctions in Iran as Nuclear Talks Proceed

State Department seal
Secretary Rubio says the move is necessary to curb the country’s oil profits and sanctions evasion tactics.

The State Department announced new sanctions against Iran last week in an attempt to further curb the country’s oil profits during ongoing nuclear negotiations with the United States. The sanctions were put in place against seven firms and two shipping vessels accused of aiding in the illicit trade of Iran’s primary export with previously sanctioned entities.

“So long as Iran attempts to generate oil and petrochemical revenues to fund its destabilizing activities, and support its terrorist activities and proxies, the United States will take steps to hold both Iran and all its partners engaged in sanctions evasion accountable,” Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated.
