DHL Resumes International Consumer Imports Valued Over $800

The company announced it had a “constructive dialogue” with the U.S. government.

Shipping company DHL announced that it has resumed shipments of imports over $800 after a pause in the wake of President Donald Trump’s changes to U.S. tariffs.

President Trump’s administration lowered the “de-minimis” rule for import inspections from $2,500 to $800, which meant that far more shipments were subject to inspection at U.S. ports. DHL said this decision “caused a surge in formal customs clearances” which required work “around the clock” to ensure its packages entered the country in a timely fashion.

DHL said its decision to resume shipments of $800 or more followed discussions with the president’s administration.

“This decision follows constructive dialogue between DHL and the U.S. government, who demonstrated a strong willingness to understand our operational and technical challenges, and who agreed that it was imperative to act quickly in the interest of U.S. consumers,” the global shipping company wrote in a release.
