The attorney general says, “No boy will be undressing in a girl’s locker room.”
The Department of Justice filed suit against the state of Maine last month for violating Title IX protections for girls and women in sports. President Donald Trump signed an executive order in February returning Title IX provisions to their original meaning and prohibiting biological males from competing in girls’ and women’s sports.
Attorney General Pam Bondi announced the lawsuit against Maine’s Department of Education for “failure to comply with federal law.”
“If one young woman is in jeopardy – one – that’s enough for us to be standing up here. One,” Attorney General Bondi said. “No boy will be undressing in a girl’s locker room. No boy will be walking in a woman’s restroom. And no boy, when we’re finished with this, will be beating young girls in sports!”
The attorney general said it is not only a matter of discrimination but of safety. “These boys are allowed to go in women’s restrooms. They are allowed to go in the women’s dressing rooms… and change clothes in front of these young women,” she pointed out.
Governor Janet Mills and other Maine officials claim their policies do not violate Title IX and that the state is following both federal and state law.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Attorney General Bondi and Education Secretary McMahon as they seek to ensure the original intent of Title IX is upheld.
- For state governors and officials as they interpret federal and state laws for compliance.
