Stand Courageous

The wicked flee when no one pursues, but the righteous are bold as a lion.  – Proverbs 28:1

It is not unusual for a sparrow to flee to its nest when the hawk flies near, or for the fox to seek its den when the hunter and hounds are tracking it, but it is unnatural for man to run away when there is nothing chasing him… unless he has done wrong and his conscience is bothering him. His guilt hinders him from breaking free of his sin. In truth, he flees from God.

The Psalmist David said it best: “Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there! If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me” (Psalm 139: 7-10). The truth is that you cannot escape, but you can become right with God by accepting the conditions of reconciliation. Confess, repent, and believe in Jesus as your Savior and your relationship with Him will cause you to “seek the Lord while He may be found” (Isaiah 55:6).

It is then that you can be bold in your approach to Him through prayer. Pray that the leaders of this land would have wisdom and discernment. Speak truth and seek justice. Do not flee but stand courageously for what is right in the eyes of God. Pray that those in government will do the same, seeking what is best to effect peace among its people.

The wicked flee when no one pursues,
but the righteous are bold as a lion.
When a land transgresses, it has many rulers,
but with a man of understanding and knowledge,
    its stability will long continue.
A poor man who oppresses the poor
is a beating rain that leaves no food.
Those who forsake the law praise the wicked,
but those who keep the law strive against them.
Evil men do not understand justice,
but those who seek the Lord understand it completely.
Better is a poor man who walks in his integrity
than a rich man who is crooked in his ways.
The one who keeps the law is a son with understanding,
but a companion of gluttons shames his father.
Whoever multiplies his wealth by interest and profit
gathers it for him who is generous to the poor.
If one turns away his ear from hearing the law,
even his prayer is an abomination.
10 Whoever misleads the upright into an evil way
will fall into his own pit,
but the blameless will have a goodly inheritance.
11 A rich man is wise in his own eyes,
but a poor man who has understanding will find him out.
12 When the righteous triumph, there is great glory,
but when the wicked rise, people hide themselves.
13 Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper,
but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy.
14 Blessed is the one who fears the Lord always,
but whoever hardens his heart will fall into calamity.
