Homeland Security Seeks to Protect Monuments

“We won’t stand idly by,” said acting secretary.

On Wednesday, Chad Wolf, the Acting Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security announced the creation of a specialized task force dedicated to protecting national monuments, statues, and memorials.

The DHS Protecting American Communities Task Force will coordinate departmental law enforcement agency assets to best defend the monuments.

In a press release, Wolf said, “DHS is answering the President’s call to use our law enforcement personnel across the country to protect our historic landmarks. We won’t stand idly by while violent anarchists and rioters seek not only to vandalize and destroy the symbols of our nation, but to disrupt law and order and sow chaos in our communities.”

He added, “As we approach the July 4th holiday, I have directed the deployment and pre-positioning of Rapid Deployment Teams (RDT) across the country to respond to potential threats to facilities and property. While the Department respects every American’s right to protest peacefully, violence and civil unrest will not be tolerated.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • That protests would remain calm and peaceful over the Independence Day weekend.
  • For Acting Secretary Wolf and others, including the rapid deployment teams, working to protect markers of America’s history and guard the security of the public.
  • That monuments and statues would be respected as teaching tools from which all Americans can learn.
