President’s Executive Order a Blessing for Meat Industry

The pandemic still a challenge in the world of meat packing.

On Wednesday, President Trump signed an executive order that included meat processing plants as part of the “critical infrastructure” required to stay open during the coronavirus epidemic. Processing plants closing down due to COVID-19 were creating bottle-necks that threatened the supply chain.

The use of the Defense Production Act, while seeking to support the industry and its workers, has created the same challenge that other essential sectors face. The medical equipment, such as masks, gloves, and proper disinfectants, that many hospitals have been trying to acquire are now being sought by meat factory owners. Meat packers also need to be properly trained to use that equipment. The Department of Labor is currently working with the industry to develop proper guidelines for working in epidemic conditions.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For wisdom for President Trump as he uses executive authority.
  • For the Department of Labor as they work through ways to keep essential workers safe.
  • That businesses would be preserved as they attempt to weather these extraordinary times.
