Word of Hope

Because of the hope laid up for you in heaven, of this you have heard before in the word of truth, the gospel.  – Colossians 1:5

In a world of exaggeration and fiction, how wonderful is it to pick up a book called “the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15)? The sacred scriptures of the Holy Bible are not a production of a religious organization or merely ancient fables, they are the inspired message of God given to you for help and hope! The apostle Peter describes them, “as to a lamp shining in a dark place” (2 Peter 1:19). However, there are those who find reading the Bible to be a challenge. How do you find hope in manuscripts written 1900 – 3400 years ago?

While reading the Bible you quickly discover a vast difference between the nomadic cultures of the ancient middle east and the world you know, however, people then and today struggle with the same issue… sin!

The same God of Creation introduced in the Old Testament moved Paul to say, “all Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16). And in his parting days Jesus alluded to your greatest hope in knowing Him and understanding His word, “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, He will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you” (John 14:26).

Pick up your Bible and trust in God’s hope and help described there. Pray for those who serve in America’s halls of justice that do not know Him, that they would discover His written word.

75 I know, O Lord, that your rules are righteous,

77 Let your mercy come to me, that I may live;
    for your law is my delight.
