The Appointed Time

I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in His Word I hope.  – Psalm 130:5

What was the last appointment you made? Was it for home repair or maybe a doctor or dentist visit? Life gets complicated when appointments are messed up, either by someone arriving too early or on the wrong day. God even refers to “the appointed time” in His Word.

God waits and God asks people to wait! “The word of the Lord came to me, saying, ‘Jeremiah, what do you see? And I said, I see an almond branch. Then the Lord said to me, you have seen well, for I am watching over my word to perform it” (Jeremiah 1:11-12).

Think of the lives of Abraham, Moses, Joseph, and even Jesus. Could God have delivered each of them instantly? Yes, but it was in the process of waiting those characters were refined and God’s glory was revealed.

Pressure has a way of showing you the specifics of what you REALLY believe. And there is nothing as challenging as “a season of waiting.” But just ask the people mentioned above if God failed to do anything He promised? Part of your time waiting is to orient your faith towards God’s will and prepare you in anticipation for it to be done: “For still the vision awaits its appointed time; it hastens to the end – it will not lie. If it seems slow wait for it; it will surely come; it will not delay“ (Habakkuk 2:3).

God’s redemption of people and Earth is inevitable because He has said it will happen, and it will. Hold fast to your hope in these difficult days and invite others to turn to Him in faith while there is time.

Today’s Verse: 1 Corinthians 15:19

I wait for the Lord, my soul waits,
    and in his word I hope;

9 Know therefore that the Lord your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations, 10 and repays to their face those who hate him, by destroying them. He will not be slack with one who hates him. He will repay him to his face. 11 You shall therefore be careful to do the commandment and the statutes and the rules that I command you today.

12 “And because you listen to these rules and keep and do them, the Lord your God will keep with you the covenant and the steadfast love that he swore to your fathers. 13 He will love you, bless you, and multiply you. He will also bless the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your ground, your grain and your wine and your oil, the increase of your herds and the young of your flock, in the land that he swore to your fathers to give you.
