Senate Makes Progress on Bipartisan Gun Legislation

A dozen legislators work to identify common ground.

A pledge for quick action submitted on Thursday has energized members of Congress to find a bipartisan solution to mass shootings in the United States. Senator Chris Murphy and Senator John Cornyn are leading a group of about a dozen lawmakers to address contributing factors seen by all parties, including school security, the failing mental health system, and methods to keep guns out of the hands of dangerous individuals.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said it was likely an agreement could be reached “very soon.” He stated, “As soon as the bipartisan group comes to agreement, I want to bring a measure to the floor for a vote as quickly as possible.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Senator Schumer as he oversees negotiations on gun legislation.
  • For the senators deliberating the measure to address gun violence.
