Commerce Secretary Temporarily Suspends Ukrainian Steel Tariffs

232 tariffs lifted to boost Ukrainian economy.

This week, Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo announced the temporary suspension of 232 Ukrainian steel tariffs. The Ukrainian steel industry employs 1 in 13 Ukrainians, and many of their steel mills are still operating even as Russia attacks the country. The tariffs will be lifted for one year, encouraging the demand for Ukrainian steel necessary to keep their workers employed and their steel industry vibrant.

“Steelworkers are among the world’s most resilient—whether they live in Youngstown or Mariupol,” said Secretary Raimondo. “Today’s announcement is a signal to the Ukrainian people that we are committed to helping them thrive in the face of Putin’s aggression, and that their work will create a stronger Ukraine, both today and in the future.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For wisdom for Secretary Raimondo, Trade Representative Tai, and Trade Secretary Trevelyan as they seek to support Ukrainian industry.
  • For the president and his administration to balance efforts between domestic and international concerns.
