Pencils and Guinea Pigs

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ; the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction.  – 2 Corinthians 1:3

A preacher once said, “I looked up the Greek word for all, and all means all and that’s all means.” This by itself is a comforting thought considering that God comforts His people in ALL of their affliction. Some synonyms for affliction include sickness, disease, infirmity, suffering, difficulty, burden, hardship, pain, trouble, misery, and misfortune. Are you facing any of these things today? Turn to God, to comfort you in all your afflictions.

Did you know that March 30th has been designated “Grass is always browner on the other side of the fence day”? (You could also call it “Count Your Blessings” day.) There are many other observances on March 30th as well: Manatee Appreciation Day, National Doctors Day, National I am in Control Day, National Little Red Wagon Day, National Virtual Vacation Day, Pencil Day, Take a Walk in the Park Day, Turkey Neck Soup Day, and World Bipolar Day. Also, some observances last the entire month of March, including little-known ones such as Mirth Month, National Peanut Month, and Adopt a Rescued Guinea Pig Month. Someone cared enough about all of these things to designate time to remember them. God is big enough to care for all your concerns whether or not they involve pencils, guinea pigs, or little red wagons.

The Holy Spirit lives within each person who believes in the Lord Jesus and one of the things He does is comfort them (John 14:26). Today, as you bring to God all of your concerns, including issues facing the nation, rely on Him for comfort and pray for those who are afflicted in this country. Intercede for those who have experienced hardships due to the pandemic and praise the Lord for the comfort He brings.

Today’s Verse:  2 Corinthians 1:3

6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, 7 casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. 8 Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 9 Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. 10 And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. 11 To him be the dominion forever and ever. Amen.
