Positive Faith

Isaiah 40:28 – Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom.

You’ve tested positive. Those are words you don’t want to hear in most circumstances today…and certainly not from a doctor or laboratory!

But what if it is God telling you that you have tested positive for your faith? Wouldn’t that be entirely different? Wouldn’t’ you be exercised to use more of it?

Self-help gurus and philosophical thinkers are telling you today that you must have positive thinking and positive self-talk. Those have their place. But you cannot place your faith in positive thoughts or inner dialogue to pull you through the fears and anxieties that have beset America and the world because of the coronavirus. Jesus admonished His disciples, “Have faith in God” (Mark 11:22).  Before the writer of the Hebrews listed history’s “Hall of Faith,” verse 1 says, “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.”

What are you hoping for today? Can you be assured of it happening for you? Surely, God will bring you through, according to His plan for you.  “Faith is the victory that overcomes the world,” hymn writer John Yates penned in 1891.   Isaiah also wrote, “Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint.”

Pray With Us

Father of all mercies, Your promises are so wonderful. I cling to them today.  Things might not be perfect in my household, my neighborhood, my church. But I know that you said in Romans that my faith is strengthened through suffering which brings perseverance, character, and hope. My hope is with You, O Lord.  Set me upon the eagle’s wings so I can gain the higher perspective. Give me strength to make it through each day. I will tell everyone that it was not my positive thoughts, but the positive testing of my faith, that it was You, O God, that brought the victory!

Amen.
