Senator McConnell Advocates Airstrikes Against Taliban

Calls for the defense of Kabul.

Senator Mitch McConnell called for the use of airstrikes to prevent the Taliban from capturing Kabul on Friday. “The Administration should move quickly to hammer Taliban advances with airstrikes, provide critical support to the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) defending the capital, and prevent the seemingly imminent fall of the city,” the Senate minority leader stated.

Senator McConnell joins other members of Congress in their call for President Biden to reverse his decision to remove U.S. troops from Afghanistan. The president has continued to defend his position, saying that it was high time to end further expenditure and trust Afghanistan to handle their own issues. “Afghan leaders have to come together,” he said. “They’ve got to fight for themselves, fight for their nation.”

  • For the president’s administration as strategies for dealing with the chaos in Afghanistan are considered.
  • For the U.S. and its allies as the situation with the Taliban unfolds.
