Saturday, July 31

President Joe Biden is at the presidential retreat at Camp David for the weekend. The president has no scheduled public events on his agenda for today.

This week, the president requested that Congress take action to extend the eviction moratorium that expires today.

In June, the Supreme Court ruled that the CDC did not have authority to continue the moratorium, stating, “clear and specific congressional authorization (via new legislation) would be necessary for the CDC to extend the moratorium past July 31.”

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said on Thursday, “In light of the Supreme Court’s ruling, the President calls on Congress to extend the eviction moratorium to protect such vulnerable renters and their families without delay. In addition, he has asked the U.S. Departments of Housing and Urban Development, Agriculture, and Veterans Affairs to extend their respective eviction moratoria through the end of September.“

Members of Congress were making efforts on Friday to gather enough support for last-minute legislation.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For the president and his administration as they seek to secure housing for the unemployed.
  • For the Supreme Court justices as they take their summer break.
  • For members of the House and Senate as they consider the extension of the eviction moratorium.
