Nuclear Waste Leak Discovered by Energy Department

World War II era tank in Washington state a known hazard.

An underground nuclear waste storage tank located in the state of Washington developed a leak. The Hanford Nuclear Reservation tank was created during World War II and is the second nuclear waste leak discovered in similar tanks this year. The Department of Energy will be checking the 149 other nuclear waste tanks in the same area, as similar leaks are likely.

“There is no increased health or safety risk to the Hanford workforce or the public,” said Geoff Tyree, a spokesman for the Energy Department. “Contamination in this area is not new and mitigation actions have been in place for decades to protect workers, the public and the environment.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • That the Department of Energy would be successful in their nuclear repairs and cleanups.
  • For U.S. officials as nuclear waste sites are assessed.
  • For wisdom for the Environmental Protection Agency as they seek to prevent the impact of toxins upon the American public.
