Interior Sets Council on Native American Affairs Meeting

White House Council will seek to address issues relations to COVID-19.

The Interior Department announced the upcoming date of April 23 for the first meeting of the White House Council on Native American Affairs since the start of the new administration. The council will focus on top priority needs from Native American communities including COVID-19 response, the reopening of schools, and general economic development within tribal areas. 

Secretary Haaland addressed the importance of the council, saying, “The White House Council on Native American Affairs represents an important commitment to strengthen Tribal sovereignty, uphold our commitment to Tribal Nations, and honor the United States’ nation-to-nation relationships. Addressing the systemic inequities that impact Indigenous peoples is the responsibility of every federal agency that will require an all-of-government approach across the Administration.”
