Interior Using COVID-19 Relief for Tribes

American Rescue Plan funds going to Native American communities.

The Interior Department announced its plans to utilize funding from the recently passed American Rescue Plan, focusing on revitalizing Native American communities acutely impacted by the disease. The passage of the bill apportioned $900 million to the Bureau of Indian Affairs to aid in housing and drinking water, $850 million for the Bureau of Indian Education to help Tribal colleges and schools, and $105 million to focus on wildlife disease outbreaks.

According to Acting Secretary of the Interior Scott de la Vega, “One year into the pandemic, the challenges we face are still significant – and continue to disproportionately impact American Indian and Alaska Native communities, people of color, and rural Americans. The Biden-Harris American Rescue Plan will deliver immediate relief to families, businesses, and schools across the country.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For the Lord to guide Acting Secretary De la Vega to effectively lead the Interior Department.
  • That the president’s administration would have discernment in serving Native American communities.
  • That God would help the Interior Department use the funds given to it wisely.
