The teen gunman was killed after killing three children and a teacher at an elementary school.
Officials from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) are assisting in the investigation after a 16-year-old male breached Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon, and killed three children and a teacher with a long gun in a special needs classroom on Thursday. Another student and a teacher were hospitalized with critical injuries. An armed member of the community, a father of two of the school’s students, was driving by, followed the gunman into the school, and fatally shot him.
Director Kash Patel announced that the Portland FBI agents were “on the scene and assisting our local partners in the investigation regarding an earlier shooting at a local school. We will make every resource they need available.”
Oregon Governor Tina Kotek stated, “As we learn more about the tragic event at Silver Rail Elementary in Bend… we must come together and support each other, neighbor to neighbor, Oregonian to Oregonian. No community should have to live through this day.”
She thanked teachers, staff, and first responders, and the community member who “heroically intervened to stop further loss of life.”
Authorities executed a search warrant on the teen shooter’s home, and his parents have cooperated with law enforcement.
President Trump commended the father who shot the gunman. “Thank God we had him,” The president said. “Otherwise it would have been much worse. It’s a terrible thing, but thank goodness for a man that had a gun and knew how to use it.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Governor Kotek and state and local officials as they investigate the shooter and the circumstances of the attack on the school.

- For God’s comfort for the parents and families of those who lost their lives in the shooting.
- For the Lord’s healing for the injured and those traumatized by the attack.
