House Considers Renewal of Great American Outdoors Act

If approved, the legislation would reinstate $1.9 billion annual funding to help with upkeep and maintenance in the national parks systems.

Members of the House of Representatives are considering a renewal of President Trump’s Great American Outdoors Act, introduced by House Committee on Natural Resources Chair Bruce Westerman of Arkansas, to provide five years of funding to national parks and historic sites. Passed during President Trump’s first term in 2020 and considered to be one of the most significant conservation laws to be enacted in decades, the Great American Outdoors Act expired last year, halting funding for some restoration and maintenance efforts in the National Parks system.

“In our country, where we have a hard time agreeing on a lot of things, most people support our national parks,” Congressman Westerman said. “It’s something we really need to come together on and do something good for our country here in the 250th year anniversary.”

Representative Westerman said the legislation currently has more than 260 cosponsors. The measure is expected to be put to a vote when the House returns after the midterm elections.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Representative Westerman as he promotes that legislation and chairs the natural resources committee.
  • For the members of the House of Representatives to be discerning as they consider the renewal of the Great American Outdoors Act.
  • For President Trump as he advocates for the conservation funding for the national parks.
