Education Department Joins “Get Active” Campaign to Get America’s Students Moving

The initiative is “a nationwide effort to get America’s kids moving and build a healthier, stronger generation.“

Education Secretary Linda McMahon joined Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. earlier this month to announce the Department of Education’s partnership in the “Get Kids Active“ campaign. The initiative is “a nationwide effort to get America’s kids moving and build a healthier, stronger generation.“

“Strong minds and strong bodies go hand in hand. When students are active, they are more focused, more engaged, and better prepared to learn,” said Secretary McMahon. “The Department of Education is proud to partner with the Department of Health and Human Services and the President’s Fitness Council to take this initiative directly into our schools and encourage students across the country to get up, get moving, and stay active.”

The Department of Health and Human Services also launched a Presidential Fitness School Innovation Challenge. The $10 million prize competition will reward schools and youth-serving organizations for implementing the Presidential Fitness Test.

“Getting America healthy starts with getting our children moving again,” said Secretary Kennedy, “President Trump brought back the Presidential Fitness Test to restore a culture of strength, fitness, and healthy competition for America’s youth. Now we are challenging schools and communities across the country to put that vision into action, reward the best ideas, and spread what works so every child has the opportunity to build healthy habits that last a lifetime.”
