U.S. Senator from Kentucky
Randal Howard Paul was born in January 1963 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He attended Baylor University and is a graduate of the Duke University School of Medicine. After completing his residency in ophthalmology, he moved to Bowling Green, Kentucky, where he worked at a vision center, and later a private medical group. He is a board-certified ophthalmologist.
Paul began his political career working with his father, Ron Paul, also a physician, in a presidential campaign. He was elected to the United States Senate, assuming office in January 2011.
Paul is married to Kelley Ashby, and they have three sons. He is a Presbyterian.

Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky highlighted the need to take action on the deficit after the national debt recently surpassed $40 trillion, promoting his “Six Penny Plan.“
Senator Paul stated on social media, “We can’t wait any longer. We must address our deficit. Instead of spending money we don’t have, Congress should pass my Penny Plan and balance the budget in less than 10 years.”
Originally proposed in 2018, Senator Paul reintroduced his federal budget resolution last year, which would cut six cents off every dollar projected to be spent over the next five fiscal years.
“It balances in five years,” Senator Paul told a media outlet. “But it’s important to know that it has to be every bit. It’s 6% of the entire budget. It doesn’t work on just the discretionary budget.”
Senator Paul stated last year, “Runaway deficits and skyrocketing interest costs mean it will take a six percent reduction annually just to get us back on track. The math doesn’t lie. Either we take responsibility now, or we condemn our children and grandchildren to economic ruin.”
