Both the B-21 Raider and the F-47 are expected to be put into service in 2027 and 2028.
The U.S. Air Force (USAF) announced that the development of both of its new stealth aircraft, the B-21 Raider and the F-47, is running ahead of schedule. This is the result of accelerated production efforts, as well as digital engineering.
Critical Major Weapon Systems Director General Dale White discussed the sixth-generation F-47 fighter at the Air Force’s Life Cycle Industry Days in Dayton, Ohio. He said the acquisition program was also accelerated by approximately 25 percent due to a one-time funding boost of $4.5 billion included in a 2025 reconciliation bill.
The B-21 was able to join flight testing a few months ago at Edwards Air Force Base in California. Officials said this milestone would help to accelerate testing and weapons integration for the first new long-range bomber in America in three decades. The first operational B-21 is expected to be put into service in 2027, with seven new bombers expected to be produced annually. The first flight for the F-47 fighters is scheduled for 2028, and the Air Force plans to acquire an additional 185 F-47 fighters.
