Treasury Continues to Remove Sanctions Under Modernization Initiative

OFAC also announced the launch of a Reconsideration Portal for persons or property on the sanctions list.

The Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) recently removed individuals from the Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons List (SDN List) as part of its modernization initiative. A total of 76 listings were removed from several categories, such as deceased persons, defunct entities, and targets who were sanctioned over 20 years ago that do not appear to pose an ongoing threat. OFAC also removed several duplicate sets of entries.

“As part of Treasury’s ongoing sanctions modernization efforts, OFAC launched an online portal that streamlines the process to request removal for persons and property (via authorized representative) added to an OFAC sanctions list,” the department stated.

“The Reconsideration Portal enables persons and property on an OFAC sanctions list—or their authorized representatives—to submit delisting petitions and request certain information underlying their sanctions determinations,” the Treasury Department explained.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Treasury and State Department officials as they determine which individuals and entities to designate.
  • For Director Bradley Smith and OFAC personnel as they review those on the SDN list for potential removal.
  • For Acting Under Secretary Gene Lange as he oversees the Office of Terrorism and Financial Intelligence.
