First Lady Melania Trump conducted a fifth round of Ukrainian and Russian child reunifications with their families this week. The first lady has advocated for children’s issues, both foreign and domestic, throughout her husband’s time in executive office. The five children who were reunited were part of the forced relocation of children by Russia since the beginning of the Ukraine war.
Mrs. Trump said, “While diplomacy and peacebuilding are important to this effort, they are surpassed by our collective ability to place children above international disputes. Every reunion is a reminder that compassion, dignity, and family can transcend even the darkest of times: war.”
The first lady added, “My representative and I continue working with the governments of Russia and Ukraine to safely return children to their families and communities.”
