Pentagon Awards Agreements for Joint Laser Weapon System

The new joint laser weapon systems will provide new advantages over current systems.

The Department of War has announced that it has awarded two Joint Laser Weapon System (JLWS) Other Transaction Authority (OTA) agreements to nLIGHT Defense and Lockheed Martin Aculight. The initial award value is $86 million, while the program ceiling totals $847 million.

Under Secretary of War for Research and Engineering Emil Michael said the department intends to create scalable, cost-effective intercept solutions for various asymmetric and high-tier adversary threats. These prototype systems will offer new operational advantages over traditional kinetic ones. These include an increase in speed-of-light engagement and a decrease in cost-per-intercept.

“We must actively defend the homeland against emerging threats,“ Under Secretary Michael stated. “We are partnering with industry to rapidly deliver deep magazine directed energy capabilities to the Joint Force that can be seamlessly deployed across multiple domains.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Undersecretary Michael as his department seeks new ways to protect the U.S. from threats.
  • For U.S. defense officials as they award contracts for the development of new technologies and systems.
  • For God’s continued protection of the United States.
