He gave the direction during the second day of the NATO summit.

President Donald Trump directed Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to halt trade with Spain during the second day of the NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey.

President Trump said, “Spain is a wasted cause. We don’t want to do any trade with Spain anymore, by the way.”

President Trump then directed Secretary Bessent, “I’d like you to cut it off. Spain is a terrible partner in NATO. They don’t participate. They don’t pay. I don’t want anything to do with Spain. Cut off all trade with Spain, please, including visits.”

The president added that Spain has not treated the NATO Secretary-General well. “Spain doesn’t agree to anything, and you shouldn’t carry them.”

President Trump also suggested that the U.S. may reduce its troop presence in Spain and Italy, as well as Germany.
