Today is President Donald Trump’s 80th birthday. The White House is celebrating the event by hosting the UFC Freedom 250 match on the South Lawn. It is the first time a professional event has been held at the presidential residence.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio said, “The White House is the people’s house. It belongs to the people of the United States. The American 250 celebration belongs to the people of the United States. For them to be able to see this event with their White House in the background as part of our celebration as a country in our 250 years, I think, is a gift to the American people.”
The secretary added, “There are only a handful of things that bring people together in one place at one time, united by their interest in one thing. We need more of those, we need more of those forms and those settings in which we can bring people together to enjoy something together and find something in common.”
