The order sought to require voter identification and delivery of ballots to only U.S. citizens.
U.S. District Judge Carl Nichols declined an emergency request to block President Donald Trump’s executive order, signed on March 31, regarding voter identification and restrictions on mail-in ballots. He said that, since it has not been fully implemented yet, it is too early to block the order.
“The Court recognizes that the Postal Service may ultimately issue a final rule that directly affects Plaintiffs or their members, or that the Government may develop State Citizenship Lists that omit specific individuals due to particularized flaws,” Judge Nichols wrote. “Plaintiffs may, of course, renew their motions if and when those future actions occur. Until then, however, Plaintiffs cannot show that preliminary injunctive relief is warranted.”
The president’s order directed the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Social Security Administration to generate lists of voting-age citizens and to have the U.S. Postal Service deliver mail ballots to only those people.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For President Trump as he seeks to ensure only U.S. citizens vote in federal elections according to the law.
- For federal judges as they hear challenges to the president’s executive orders.
- For Secretary Mullin to be led by the Lord as he heads the Department of Homeland Security.
