The suspect opened fire at a White House entrance on Saturday evening.
The White House locked down Saturday evening after a man opened fire at a gate of the White House.
The Secret Service stated that the man “pulled a weapon from his bag and began firing. Secret Service Police retured fire striking the suspect who was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased. During the shooting one bystander was also struck by gunfire.“
The Secret Service continued, “No injuries were sustained by officers. The President was in the White House during the incident, however no protectees or operations were impacted.“
The service added that the incident is under investigation.
President Trump stated, “Thank you to our great Secret Service and Law Enforcement for the swift and professional action taken this evening against a gunman near the White House, who had a violent history and possible obsession with our Country’s most cherished structure.”
