USDA Implements Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act

President Trump signed the law in January that requires federal nutrition programs to offer whole and 2% milk.

U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins announced the final rule this month to implement the Whole Milk for Health Kids Act, which requires participants in federal child nutrition programs to offer whole and 2% milk. The move is intended to improve childhood nutrition and support the nation’s dairy farmers.

Secretary Rollins said, “For years, outdated federal rules kept nutritious whole milk off school menus, despite growing evidence showing the importance of healthy fats and nutrient-dense foods for child development. USDA is proud to implement the Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act and give schools the flexibility to serve real, wholesome milk options that help children grow, learn, and thrive.”

The USDA highlighted, “Whole milk and other dairy products provide essential nutrients including protein, calcium, potassium, phosphorus, riboflavin, niacin, and vitamins A, D, and B12. Whole milk is especially important for young children aged 1 to 10 to support energy needs and brain development.“

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Rollins as she ensure the USDA implements congressional laws and regulations.
  • For Deputy Under Secretary Patrick Penn as he oversees the Food, Nutrition, and Consumer Services.
  • For the president’s administration as officials focus on the health and wellbeing of children and students.
