State Department Conducting Review of Mexican Consulates in U.S.

The president’s administration continues its effort to increase security and reduce illicit drug flow.

The State Department is conducting a review of the 53 Mexican consulates located within the United States. The move is seen as part of efforts by President Trump’s administration to increase security and reduce drug trafficking in Latin America, and is anticipated to result in some office closures.

Assistant Secretary of State for Public Affairs Dylan Johnson said, “The Department of State is constantly reviewing all aspects of American foreign relations to ensure they are in line with the President’s America First foreign policy agenda and advance American interests.”

Mexico has the largest network of consulates in the United States. The State Department has closed Chinese and Russian consulates in recent years in cities such as Houston, San Francisco, New York City, and Washington, D.C.

The U.S. Justice Department recently indicted 10 current and former Mexican officials regarding drug trafficking. Two U.S. embassy employees, who were reportedly also operatives of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), died in a car crash in Mexico, which also claimed the lives of two Mexican law enforcement officers, after a local drug raid last month.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For wisdom for State Department officials as they conduct the review of Mexican consulates.
  • For President Trump and Secretary Rubio as they set foreign policy and seek regional cooperation.
  • For Acting Attorney General Blanche as he heads the Department of Justice and its efforts to prosecute federal crimes.
