WHCA Shooter Charged with Attempted Assassination of the President

Director Patel says that security for the rescheduled correspondents’ dinner will look completely different.

U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro and Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche announced Monday, April 27, that the suspect from the security incident at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner faces multiple federal counts, including the attempted assassination of President Trump, assault on a federal officer with a dangerous weapon, and firearms charges.

The suspect had reportedly booked a room at the Washington Hilton as a guest. He was carrying two guns and several knives when he attempted to storm the security screening area outside the main ballroom while the dinner was in progress. He fired at least one shot, striking a Secret Service agent in his ballistic vest. The agent is expected to make a full recovery. Investigators recovered a manifesto sent by the suspect to family members shortly before the attack that included a prioritized list of Trump administration officials he intended to target by seniority.

The dinner will be rescheduled, and FBI Director Kash Patel stated that security and law enforcement will be different at the event than the one that was organized over the weekend.

President Donald Trump has spoken with notable resolve over the past few days. During a public address, the President expressed his profound gratitude for the United States Secret Service and the swift intervention of law enforcement professionals who secured the venue. He emphasized a commitment to vigilance, stating that the work of the Executive Branch would continue without “surrendering to fear.” He also reiterated the need for a White House ballroom at a briefing after the assassination attempt, “I didn’t want to say this, but this is why we have to have all of the attributes of what we’re planning at the White House. It’s actually a larger room, and it’s much more secure.”

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche urged the National Trust for Historic Preservation to drop its lawsuit obstructing the construction of the White House ballroom. He wrote, “The government will move to dissolve the injunction and dismiss the case in light of last night’s extraordinary events.”

Separately, the U.S. Secret Service, which is under the Department of Homeland Security, has not been funded since the lapse in appropriations in mid-February. DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin warned that the funding provided by the One Big Beautiful Bill that President Trump reallocated to pay department employees is set to run out in a couple of weeks.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • Pray for President Trump, for continued protection, discernment, and a spirit of peace amid heightened tension.
  • For Secret Service agents as they protect the president and members of the administration.
  • For the judges in the case against the attempted assassin and in the case challenging the construction of the White House ballroom.
