In the News…

Representative Jamie Raskin of Maryland, ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee, is reintroducing legislation to create a commission that would oversee the removal of the president under the 25th Amendment.

The proposed 17-person commission’s purpose would be to evaluate President Trump’s fitness for office and recommend whether or not to remove him under Section 4 of the 25th Amendment, which allows the Vice President and a Cabinet majority to declare a president “unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office.”

“There’s obviously tremendous anxiety in the country about the… conduct and behavior of the President,” Congressman Raskin said, while acknowledging the reality that his party is in the minority. “For people to say we should just go ahead and impeach him simply denies this political reality. There is not a single [member of the majority] who has called for impeachment or indicated to us interest in impeachment at this point.”
