The funding is focused on improving accessibility and modernizing aging rail infrastructures.
The U.S. Department of Transportation announced approximately $686 million in competitive grant funding to support upgrades to older rail transit stations. The funds, administered through the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), will be used for projects that improve accessibility, including accommodations for individuals with disabilities, families with strollers, and other passengers with mobility needs.
“USDOT is ensuring infrastructure projects prioritize safety, efficiency, and the well-being of American families,” said Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy. “Ensuring young families with strollers and our elderly using wheelchairs are able to navigate our transit systems in an investment taxpayers will see make a real difference in their communities.”
Grant criteria emphasized station improvements such as clearer navigation systems, updated infrastructure, and more efficient project delivery timelines. Applications are due by May 1, 2026, and selected projects will focus on enhancing access to jobs, healthcare, and community services while addressing the condition of existing transit facilities.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Secretary Duffy to be led by God as he manages the Transportation Department and its many agencies.
- For Acting Executive Director Jamie Pfister as she oversees the Federal Transit Administration.
- For discernment for U.S. transportation officials as they consider projects and allocate funding.
