A previous drone incursion had been successfully rebuffed.
Unauthorized drones flew in waves over Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana on multiple days earlier this month, delaying the launch of aircraft in support of Operation Epic Fury. Barksdale is home to B-52 bombers and a triad of U.S. nuclear missiles. The base’s electronic countermeasures, which would disable the GPS of unmanned craft and the connection to remote operators, failed against the sophisticated drones’ sensors.
“Flying a drone over a military installation is not only a safety issue, it is a criminal offense under federal law,” a Barksdale AFB spokesperson stated. “We are working closely with federal and local law enforcement agencies to investigate these incursions. The security of our installation and the safety of our people are top priorities, and we will continue to vigilantly monitor our airspace.”
A previous incursion into U.S. military base airspace was prevented. NORTHCOM commander General Gregory Guillot testified before Congress last week, “In the early hours of Operation Epic Fury last month, a deployed [flyaway kit of counter-UAS technologies] successfully detected and defeated sUAS [drones] operating over a strategic U.S. installation.”
The general stated, “There is perhaps no better example of the rapidly evolving strategic environment than the emergence of small unmanned aerial systems as a threat to infrastructure and personnel in the homeland.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For U.S. national security officials and military base security personnel as they seek to safeguard American bases.
- For discernment for President Trump, Secretary Hegseth, and General Caine as they assess the security of U.S. military installations.
- For General Guillot as he heads the U.S. Northern Command.
