U.S. Coast Guard Announces New Training Center in Alabama

A new addition to the roster of Coast Guard training centers is unveiled.

The Department of Homeland Security announced that a new training center would be opening in Alabama at Birmingham-Southern College (BSC). Training missions are expected to begin later this year. This selection announcement reflects the continued implementation of Force Design 2028, which will take the Coast Guard in a new direction, streamlining it into a more “agile, capable and responsive fighting force.”

In November 2025, the Coast Guard issued a Request for Information (RFI), which sought a facility with specified requirements such as lodging for 1,200 recruits, a medical facility, land area of 150-250 acres, and 14 classrooms.

Before leaving office, former Homeland Security Secretary Krisiti Noem reported, “Last year’s recruitment exceeded 110% of active-duty enlisted goals, and the Coast Guard is on track to add 15,000 new members by 2028. This next generation of heroes deserves training centers and support facilities worthy of their mission, and that is exactly what they are going to have in Alabama.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Mullin as he oversees the Coast Guard’s restructuring and expansion.
  • For Coast Guard officials as they prepare the new training center at BSC.
