Colorado Community College Joins FAA Air Traffic Control Training Program

Administrator Bedford says such partnerships create a “strong pipeline to bring new air traffic controllers into the FAA.”

The Department of Transportation announced that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has accepted Aims Community College into the Enhanced Air Traffic – Collegiate Training Initiative (E-CTI). There are now eleven institutions that are working with the FAA on the E-CTI initiative.

E-CTI students who pass practical and written assessments and meet security requirements receive a certificate that allows them to forgo training at the Air Traffic Controller Academy in Oklahoma. They can then apply to become a controller at the FAA and be placed at a facility and receive facility-specific training.

“This partnership with Aims Community College in Greeley creates another strong pipeline to bring new air traffic controllers into the FAA,” said FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford. “By expanding opportunities here in Colorado, we’re advancing our mission to strengthen the controller workforce and keep the flying public safe.”

The FAA surpassed its air traffic controller hiring goal for 2025 due to streamlined hiring processes and higher starting salaries for trainees.
