U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is meeting with Vice Premier He Lifeng of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) in Paris, France, today and tomorrow. The discussions are taking place ahead of President Donald Trump’s scheduled state visit to Beijing at the end of this month.
Secretary Bessent said, “Thanks to the bonds of mutual respect between President Trump and President Xi, the trade and economic dialogue between the United States and China is moving forward.”
U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer will also participate in the meetings. The discussions will include tariffs, which the U.S. has dropped to 10 percent after the Supreme Court ruled that President Trump could not impose reciprocal tariffs under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA).
