Senate Votes Down Homeland Security Funding Bill over Immigration Enforcement Reforms

Senate Majority Leader Thune said the White House has made concessions but it has not satisfied ICE critics.

The U.S. Senate was unable to pass appropriations for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on Wednesday as disagreement over immigration enforcement priorities continues. While receiving a majority of the votes, the measure fell well short of the 60 votes needed to satisfy the filibuster. The minority party insists the president’s administration reform U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) tactics and strategy.

Meanwhile, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Disaster Relief Fund is due to run out in the coming weeks, after massive winter storms hit the Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern U.S. Other agencies within DHS, such as the Transportation Safety Administration (TSA) and the U.S. Coast Guard, are also impacted by the partial shutdown.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Noem and DHS officials as they administer the remaining funding within their various agencies.
  • For members of the Senate to be prudent in their deliberations regarding funding for immigration enforcement.
