Funding supports short-term credential programs aligned with new Workforce Pell Grant eligibility.
The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) announced a recent $65 million in funding through the sixth round of Strengthening Community College Training Grants. Administered by the Employment and Training Administration, the grants will support community colleges in developing short-term training programs designed to meet employer workforce needs and qualify for newly authorized Workforce Pell Grants.
“The Department of Labor continues to deliver on President Trump’s mission to upskill and reskill our workforce to revitalize American Industry,” said Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer. “I’m excited to offer community colleges the opportunity to engage with the public workforce system and increase the availability of programs seeking eligibility for Workforce Pell Grants.”
Individual awards may reach approximately $11 million, with an emphasis on projects that build integrated, state-level data systems linking workforce and education outcomes. These grants align with broader federal efforts to connect training programs to employer demand and improve access to short-term credentials in high-demand industries, and also support statewide community college systems or consortia working to demonstrate measurable outcomes required for Workforce Pell eligibility.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Secretary Chavez-DeRemer to seek God’s wisdom as she heads the Labor Department.
- For U.S. labor officials as they seek to support workforce training to improve student employability.
- For community colleges to design programs that train students for employment in vital industries.
