Millions were under a blizzard warning on Monday as over 600,000 were without power after heavy snowfall and high winds.
A massive blizzard weather system hit the Northeastern and Mid-Atlantic U.S. on Sunday and Monday. Roughly two feet of snow fell in the New York and New Jersey metro area, and up to 30 inches were forecast for Boston. The governors of New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island have declared states of emergency.
Thousands of airline flights were canceled across the nation as air traffic halted at over a dozen airports due to the storm. The National Weather Service announced reports of downed trees blocking roads and landing on buildings in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut from wind gusts ranging from 70 to 84 miles per hour. Over 600,000 were without power across 11 states on Monday.
New York City Mayor Zorhan Mamdani lifted the travel ban that had been in effect through Sunday night, but urged residents to “stay indoors.“ State governors in the impacted regions are requesting that people avoid traveling so that crews may clear roads.
“Give them space to do their job safely and effectively,” said Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont. “Staying off the roads keeps you safe and helps crews clear faster.“ New York Governor Kathy Hochul similarly urged residents to avoid non-essential travel.
The National Weather Service forecast that a potential storm system out of the Upper Great Lakes could bring additional snow to the northeast later in the week.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For state governors and local leaders as they coordinate recovery efforts from the storm.
- For first responders as they seek to assist those experiencing emergencies.
- For crews working to clear roads and restore power to residents affected by the nor’easter.
