Sacramento City College joins federal program to expedite air traffic control training and staffing.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced that Sacramento City College has joined its Enhanced Air Traffic–Collegiate Training Initiative (E-CTI), making it the tenth new school selected under the program. The initiative partners with colleges that offer FAA-aligned training to increase the pool of qualified air traffic controllers. Students who complete the program and meet testing, medical, and security requirements may move directly into facility-specific FAA training.
The Department of Transportation (DOT) said the expansion comes as the FAA works to address longstanding staffing shortages through multiple approaches, including changes to hiring practices, compensation, and training technology.
“The addition of new schools to our air controller pipeline will allow us to bolster our controller workforce while maintaining the highest training standards,” said Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy.
“The E-CTI program shows how the FAA is innovating to meet critical workforce needs,” said FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford. “By partnering with colleges, we’re preparing the next generation of air traffic controllers and ensuring we have the skilled professionals needed to keep our skies safe…”
