The minibus measures now go to the Senate for consideration.
The House of Representatives passed bills this week to fund the remainder of the federal government, including the Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, Transportation, Education, Housing and Urban Development, and Homeland Security. The Senate will take the bills up in the coming week, trying to meet the January 30 deadline to avoid another shutdown.
There was some uncertainty surrounding funding for the Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) after an ICE officer shot and killed an activist who rammed him with her car earlier this month. In the end, there was enough bipartisan support to fund DHS and ICE for the remainder of the fiscal year.
House Speaker Mike Johnson stated, “Together, all twelve appropriations bills provide responsible, full-year government funding, spend less than another continuing resolution, and codify reforms to cut waste, fraud, and abuse.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Senate Majority Leader Thune as he prepares to bring the measures to the upper chamber floor for a vote this coming week.
- For the safety of federal legislators who will be returning to Washington, D.C., to keep the government funded.
- For wisdom for Speaker Johnson and House leadership as they determine which legislation to advance.
