USDA begins implementation aligned with updated national dietary guidelines.
President Donald Trump recently signed the Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act into law. The legislation directs the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to allow schools participating in federal nutrition programs to offer whole milk again. The change aligns school meal standards with the 2025–2030 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, which reintroduced full-fat dairy as part of a healthy dietary pattern.
The law, which received bipartisan support in Congress, took effect immediately, with USDA issuing guidance to school nutrition officials and beginning rulemaking to update Child Nutrition Program regulations.
USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins said, “This bipartisan solution to school meals alongside the newly released Dietary Guidelines for Americans reinforces what families already know: nutrient dense foods like whole milk are an important part of a healthy diet.”
The department will revise school meal requirements to reflect the updated guidelines and ensure consistent implementation nationwide.
