President Proposes Affordable Health Plan to Congress

Multiple avenues presented, the proposal seeks to lower costs and hold insurance companies accountable.

President Donald Trump has announced the “Great Healthcare Plan,” which focuses on increasing healthcare quality and reducing costs nationwide. The plan proposes bipartisan legislation on drug and health insurance policies.

Regarding drug costs, the plan urges Congress to codify the previous deals made with pharmaceutical companies through “Most-Favored-Nation” pricing, which aligns U.S. drug pricing with that of other developed countries. The plan also promotes the transition of more prescription drugs into over-the-counter status, which the White House said will “lower healthcare costs and increase consumer choice by strengthening price transparency.”

For health insurance policies, the plan recommends that subsidies be diverted from insurance companies and instead made directly to eligible Americans, allowing citizens to buy “the health insurance of their choice.” The proposal encourages a “plain English” insurance standard, which would require insurance companies to publish “rate and coverage comparisons upfront on their websites” and remove “industry jargon.”

“I’m calling on Congress to pass this framework into law without delay,” President Trump said, “Have to do it right now so that we can get immediate relief to the American people.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For President Trump as he seeks to lower insurance and health care costs for Americans.
  • For members of Congress, as they consider each aspect of the proposal.
